Exploring identity, boundaries, communication, and connection without judgment.
Kink & BDSM-Informed Therapy Throughout Wisconsin
Kink and BDSM can be an important part of how people understand themselves, experience intimacy, and connect with partners. Yet many people have had experiences where they felt misunderstood, judged, or uncomfortable bringing these parts of their lives into a traditional therapy setting. Kink-informed therapy provides a space where you can talk openly about your experiences and relationships without having to educate your therapist about the basics or defend why they are meaningful to you.
Therapy can be helpful whether you're beginning to explore kink, have been involved in the community for years, or are navigating changes in how kink fits into your relationships and identity. We can explore questions around communication, boundaries, consent, trust, vulnerability, expectations, and how to create relationships that feel emotionally safe and fulfilling. We can also work through uncertainty when partners have different interests or comfort levels, or when incorporating kink has created challenges within a relationship.
What can Kink & BDSM-informed therapy help with?
This work can include navigating differences in interests or needs between partners, communicating boundaries and expectations, developing greater confidence around identity, working through shame or fear of judgment, and understanding the emotional dynamics that can arise within relationships that include kink or BDSM.
Therapy can also provide support when you're questioning whether something feels right for you, adjusting to changes in your relationship or identity, or trying to balance your interests with other aspects of your life.
We can also explore the ways that power, trust, vulnerability, communication, and emotional regulation intersect with your relationships. If concerns arise around consent, boundaries, agreements, jealousy, communication, or feeling emotionally disconnected from a partner, therapy can provide a place to slow things down and understand what is happening rather than relying on assumptions or outside expectations.
My approach is kink-aware, sex-positive, and nonjudgmental. You don't have to hide or minimize an important part of yourself to participate in therapy. Instead, we'll look at your experiences within the larger context of your emotional well-being and relationships, with the goal of helping you develop greater self-understanding, communicate more effectively, and create relationships that are consensual, respectful, connected, and authentic to you.
